Recently, I went to Bologna with my friends within one day, and it was such an adventure! I wanted to share what I did and how much I spent, so you can create an idea of what to expect during this trip.
Ticket Prices and Transportation
We paid approximately €30 for round-trip tickets from Tirana to Bologna with WizzAir. The flight takes about 1 hour and 44 minutes.
The taxi from the airport to the city center cost €20, but we decided to stop somewhere else (around 20 minutes away from the center)and start exploring the city by walking, so the trip cost us €16.
Here’s what we did.
1. Had a Tasty Italian Breakfast
As we were walking, we stumbled across this place called “Felicity”, which, as you can see from the photo had some very delicious and fresh pastries. I got a doughnut filled with creme and a coffee, both for €4.
2. See Piazza Maggiore
This is the main square of Bologna, surrounded by historical buildings such as the Basilica of San Petronio, the Palazzo dei Notai, and the Palazzo d’Accursio. It’s a perfect place to start exploring the city.
3. Visit Teatro Anatomico
Located within the Archiginnasio of Bologna, this 17th-century anatomical theatre was used for teaching anatomy to medical students. It wooden interiors were very interesting, and we also saw the library near it. The ticket fee was €3.
4. Wander Around the Alleys
I just love Italian alleys! There’s something so aesthetically pleasing about taking a walk and looking at the lovely stores and their designs. By the way, I’ve noticed many stores that seem super expensive due to the exterior and interior are, in fact, pretty affordable!
5. Mercato di Mezzo
The Mercato di Mezzo is a market area where you can find local produce, meats, cheeses, and more. It’s a great place to sample the flavours of Bologna. We just walked by and didn’t get anything there.
6. Delicious Italian food-Osteria
Eating at a traditional Osteria is a must when in Italy. These informal restaurants serve hearty, regional dishes. We shared bruschettas, cheeses with honey, jam, and nuts, and for the first course, I tried tortelloni with Parmigiano—it was excellent! The entire meal for four people cost €88.
7. Venetian Canals
Although not as famous as Venice, Bologna has its own set of hidden canals. I wasn’t impressed in particular, but it was pleasant to see the “little Venice” in this city.
8. Gelateria Cavour
The gelato at Gelateria Cavour was just amazing! Even though I wanted to try Nutella ice cream (they hadn’t) and I had a chocolate flavour instead, it’s definitely a worth-trying spot. It cost around €4.
9. Portico
The porticoes of Bologna are a significant cultural and architectural heritage of the city. Stretching for miles, these covered walkways provide shelter and showcase beautiful architecture, symbolizing Bologna’s historical and urban identity. They are a must-see for anyone visiting the city.
10. Enjoy a Drink or a Coffee
We were so tired we had to go somewhere to rest a bit, so we found this small park with seats, and pleasant spots around.
11. Dinner Time
We had our dinner at this place called ‘Pistamentuccia’, which we found randomly. It was pleasant, but I cannot say my favorite.
